Circular Economy Act

The REACH Regulation is the EU’sThe EU Circular Economy Act was announced in the EU Competitiveness Compass and the Clean Industrial Deal. Set to come in 2026, the Act will reshape how industries use resources. It aims to reduce waste, boost recycling and enable the free movement of circular products and materials across borders.

IWhy is it important?

Precious metals are vital for the development of clean technologies, but their supply is limited. As demand for precious metals increases, Europe needs to prioritise the recycling and recovery of these materials to ensure a continued secure supply, ultimately contributing to Europe’s competitiveness and industrial resilience.

  • EPMF KEY ASKS

The Circular Economy Act should include a single market for waste that facilitates access to secondary materials and metal scrap. In particular, we hope for a Circular Economy Act that:

  • Create a strong and efficient European single market for waste.
  • Ensure consistency between the EU’s circular, climate, and chemical objectives.
  • Prioritise harmonisation for waste rules and turn the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE) into a regulation.
  • Prioritise alternative measures to recycled content targets to improve the circularity of the non-ferrous metals sector.
  • Create the economic conditions necessary for the circular economy transition.
